Stay and Play: Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Spring is around the corner, and with it comes plans for vacation. If you are in the midwestern part of the United States or simply want to travel to one of the best golf resorts, the experience at Grand Geneva is pure perfection with its beautiful views, exquisite golf courses, top of the line amenities and various other activities while not on the course.

The Grand Geneva Golf Resort is located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and is within reasonable driving distance to Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago. The picturesque resort covering 1,300 acres features special membership rates for those dedicated golfers who play regularly. For the vacationers, there are reasonably priced golf packages as well as lessons for beginners. The affordable greens fees not only come with a cart, but full use of the driving range, practice putting green, chipping area, locker room, and GPS yardage system. For a modest additional fee, golfers can try the new GolfBoard, which is an electronic card that is easy to ride and will enable players to navigate the course easier and more rapidly.

One of the two course offered at the resort is the Highlands Golf Course that features four set of tees ranging from 5011 to 6659 yards at the tips on a par 71 layout. Originally designed by Jack Nicklaus, this links-style course — similar to those seen in Scotland — was transformed by Bob Cupp in 1996.

Featuring creeks, abundance of foliage and beautiful rolling hills, the course provides a great experience for golfers at any level. The par 4 holes place strategy at a premium, whether opting to pull out the driver, hybrid, or long iron off the tee. With narrow landing areas, the Highlands is clearly a course for precise shot-making. The risk of the long ball hitters pulling out the driver are many with several bunkers and other hazards in play for errant shots. Golfers who take on this course will have a feeling of being in Scotland without having to travel across the Atlantic Ocean.

If you want to attack one of the most challenging venues in the Midwest, take on the Brute, undoubtedly one of the best courses in Wisconsin. Four teeing areas on this par 72 layout range from 5244 yards to over 7000 yards from the tips. The Robert Bruce Harris designed course features huge, undulating greens, distinctly formed water hazards, and nearly 70 bunkers.

Not only is the Brute long, but it’s also tight, requiring the ultimate combination of power and precision. The rolling hills, along with the tree-lined fairways, large traps and water hazards makes the course picturesque, but also very daunting to play for even the best golfers. Although the greens are large, they are quick, making three-putt a norm for those that aren’t careful. The well-manicured course is a true golf experience and a must for the avid golfer.

Public rates to play on these two spectacular layouts range from $59 to $99 per person. If you enjoy playing frequently, there are discounted rates for multiple-rounds which can be used anytime up to end the of April and from October until the end of the year. During the interim times, the rounds can be used after 1:00 p.m. only and tee times can be booked anytime within 72 hours out.
