Ladies of the Links: May 30 - Bank of Hope Match Play Semifinals and Finals

Bank of Hope Match Play

After four days or grueling competition, the final four have been determined. They battled in the semifinals and finals to determine this year’s winner.

Semifinals

Eun-Hee Ji versus Andrea Lee (Ji 4-and-3)

Ji won the 1st and the 6th holes, while Lee took the 2nd and the 5th as the match was even through eight. A par by Ji on the 9th put her 1-up at the turn. Lee couldn’t find her game on the 13th through 15th, going four-over par on that stretch. Ji took advantage, winning all three holes and the match.

Ayaka Furue versus Lilia Vu (Furue 2-and-1)

Vu took a 1-up lead after recording a par on the 2nd. However, she went four-over par on the next three holes, losing all three to go 2-down. The match remained the same until the 11th when Furue won with a par to go 3-up. Vu won the 12th with a birdie to go 2-down. Neither player won another hole the rest of the way, resulting in a Furue victory.

Third Place Match

Andrea Lee versus Lilia Vu (Vu 3-and-2)

Lee bogeyed each of the first three holes, opening the door for Vu, who won the 2nd and 3rd to take a 2-up lead. Lee tied the match with a birdie on the 4th and a par on the 6th. Vu won the 8th with a par and entered the turn 1-up. She won the 10th with a par and 12th with a birdie to go 3-up. Both players struggled on the 15th, but Vu won with a bogey. She ended the match with a par on the 16th .

Championship Match

Eun-Hee Ji versus Ayaka Furue (Ji 3-and-2)

Ji took the lead on the 3rd hole with a par but Furue won the 4th and the 7th to go 1-up. Ji birdied the 8th, eagled the 9th and parred the 10th to go 2-up. Furue got to 1-down after winning the 11th with a par. Ji increased the lead to 2-up by winning the 12th and the sealed the victory with a par on the 16th. The win for Ji was her 6th on the LPGA Tour and first since winning the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions in 2019.
