Ladies of the Links Featured Player:  Olivia Cowan

Olivia Cowan was born in Hamburg, Germany on April 9, 1996. She learned to play golf at the age of three from her father, who is a teaching professional in Germany. Cowan developed into a top amateur by 2010, winning the U14 German Girls’ National Championship.

In 2011, Cowan began playing for the German National Team, where she would compete until 2015. On the individual front, Cowan won the 2011 Luxembourg Ladies International Amateur Championship, as well as the 2013 German Ladies National Championship, and the International Ladies Championship in both Spain and Portugal in 2015.

Cowan placed fourth at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in China and was part of the victorious European Vagliano Trophy Team the following year. In July of 2015, Cown was the seventh ranked amateur in the world and decided to take her game to the next level by turning professional.

Cowan played on the LET Access Series in 2015, which is the official developmental tour of the LET. She won twice on that tour as an amateur and earned her third victory of the season and first as a professional in August at the Norrporten Ladies Open by two shots over Krista Bakker. Cowan’s excellent play included a second-place finish at the CreditGate24 Trophy in her native Germany. Because of her fine play, Cowan got invited to play an LET event in 2015 at the Helsingborg Open in Sweden. Cowan more than held her own and finished tied for 12th.

After winning the 2015 LET Access Series Order of Merit, Cowan qualified for the Ladies European Tour. In addition, Cown earned a spot at the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open with her performance at sectional qualifying in England. Cowan’s best finish as a rookie on the LET was a tied for fifth at the Sanya Ladies Open. It was one of three top-10 finished during her rookie campaign.

In 2017, Cown placed a season-best tie for 6th at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open, as well as a tie for 9th at the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic. Fueled by four top-ten finishes and a career-best tied for 4th at the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open De Espana, Cown finished seventh on the LET Order of Merit in 2018. She also appeared in four Symetra Tour events with her best finish a tie for 7th at the IOA Championship.

Showing consistency, Cowan finished 7th in the Order of Merit in 2019 after placing in the top ten seven times in 16 events. She narrowly missed her first LET win, finishing a shot back of Nuria Iturrios at the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic.

Although yet to have an individual title on the LET, Cowan was part of a team win in July 2021 at the Aramco Team Series –London.

Cowan earned her LPGA Tour card for 2022 at qualifying school. She has yet to perform well in major titles, missing the cut at the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open, at the Women’s British Open in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021. The two cuts she’s made in majors were the 2019 British Open where she finished tied for 29th and the 2021 Evian Championship, finishing tied for 70th.

Away from the course, Cowan enjoys travelling and used to play tennis. She is currently dating Tood Clements, a Challenge Tour player and has even caddied for him on occasion. Cown is managed by Niall Horan’s Modest! Golf Management.

The 5’ 9” Cowan is statuesque and has the opportunity to become a household name and easily recognizable on the golf course soon. She has the talent to be in contention for the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year in 2022.
