Ladies of the Links Featured Player: Emily Pedersen

Emily Pedersen was born on March 7, 1996 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She picked up golf at a young age and joined Denmark’s national team when she was a mere 12 years old. Just two years later Pedersen won three times as an amateur, at the 2010 Mollean Open, Danish Match Play, and Royal Tour Damer III. Pedersen went on to win the 2011 Doral Publix Junior Classic (ages 14-15).

Pedersen took off as an amateur as a 16-year old, winning three times in 2012 including the Fuersopoklen, DGU Elite Tour Damer Finale, and the Doral Publis Junior Classic in the 16–18-year-old division. Pedersen exceeded her 2012 success with five wins in 2013, including the Spanish Ladies Amateur, Girls German Open, International European Ladies Amateur, DGU Elite Tour Damer Finale, and Doral Publix Junior Classic for the second straight year.

In 2014, Pedersen won her most impressive title as an amateur, winning the British Ladies Amateur 3 & 1 over Leslie Cloots of Belgium. This prompted Pedersen to try to turn professional, which she early the following year.

Pedersen posted two second-place finishes in her rookie season on the Ladies European Tour (LET) at the Deloitte Ladies Open and the Lacoste Ladies Open de France. She got into the winner’s circle for the first time as a professional at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, defeating Malene Jorgensen, Becky Morgan, and Cheyenne Woods by a single shot. Pedersen’s efforts earned her LET Rookie of the Year.

Two years later, Pedersen was playing on the LPGA Tour and did well enough to earn a spot on the European Solheim Cup team. However, she lost all three matches in Des Moines in the 2017 matches and struggled throughout the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Pedersen found her confidence and her game in 2020, winning at the ECCO Tour Bravo Tours Open during the COVID-19 break. On August 30, Pedersen won the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open by four shots over Christine Wolf, fueled by an opening round of 63. Her confidence at a high, Pedersen won three times in November. First was a playoff win over Georgia Hall at the Saudi Ladies International followed by a win four days later by two shots over Anne van Dam, Stephanie Kyriacou, and Luna Sobron. Pedersen’s final win of the season was on November 29 by four shots over NurizIturrioz at the Andalucia Cost Del Sol Open de Espana.

A highlight of Pedersen’s 2021 season was posting a 3-1-0 record at the Solheim Cup in which Europe was victorious on USA soil. In addition, she finished tied for 14-th at 12-under at the Q-Series, earning her LPGA Tour card for the 2022 season.

Among Pedersen’s goals it to improve upon her performances in majors. Entering this season, she has missed nine cuts in 19 appearances. Her best finish at the U.S. Women’s Open is tie for 41st. Her best Finish at the Evian Championship is tie for 14th and her best showing at the Women’s British is a tie for 11th in 2020.

Pedersen has all the tools to have success on the LPGA Tour. If she maintains her confidence, she can be in the running for Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year.
