Frida Kinhult has quickly risen from top amateur to Symetra Tour professional to a spot on the LPGA Tour next season following her win at the Symetra Tour championship. The 21-year-old from Sweden started playing golf at a young age on the island of Skafto.
Since 2013, Kinhult has played on the Swedish national team and in 2015 she played in her first Ladies European Tour event at the Helsingborg Open. Two years later, Kinhult played on the winning European Girls’ Team Championship, which qualified her for the 2018 Women’s British Open. In addition, Kinhult also won the Spanish International Ladies Championship in 2017 and again in 2018.
Kinhult’s success was just beginning. She won the Copa De La Reina in 2017 and 2018 and in the fall moved to Florida to attend Florida State. Kinhult was an instant success on the Seminoles’ golf team, earning honors for ACC Freshman of the Year, ACC Golfer of the Year, WGCA All-American First Team, WGCA National Freshman of the Year, and the 2019 ANNIKA Award Fall, among others.
After a successful year in college in which she won the 2019 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the Schooner Fall Classic, Kinhult ascended to the top women’s amateur in the world. She played in the 2019 ANA Inspiration, as well as the 2019 Women’s British Open.
Kinhult turned professional in December 2019 after qualifying to play on the Symetra Tour. In her first event, she finished tied for 22nd at Florida’s Natural Charity Classic. Five months later, in her first event after play was suspended due to COVID-19, Kinhult finished tied for 7th at the Founders Tribute. On October 1, 2020, Kinhult had her first professional top-five finish at the Symetra Classic. She capped her season with a wire-to-wire win at the Symetra Tour Championship, earning $26,500. The win propelled Kinhult to fourth on the 2020 Symetra Tour Money list.
