Ladies of the Links: May 26 - Bank of Hope Match Play -Round Robin Day 1

The LPGA Tour heads to Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play. The event, in its second-year features 64 players battling it out over five days from May 25 through 29 on a par 72 layout of 6804 yards. Ally Ewing won the inaugural event with a 2-and-1 victory of Sophia Popov for her second LPGA Tour title. The purse is $1.5 million with 500 points towards the Race to the CME Globe for the winner.

Round-Robin Day 1

Jeongeun Lee6 versus Maude-Aimee LeBlanc (Tied)

Lee6 went 2-up through six before LeBlanc won three of the next four holes, going two-under in the process. Lee6 regained the lead 1-up through 15 before losing the 16th with a bogey. Both players recorded par on the last two to finish all-square.

Moriya Jutanugarn versus Ashleigh Buhai (Tied)

Jutanugarn led 3-up at the turn before Buhai won the next four holes with three birdies and a par. Jutanugarn with a par on the 17th. Both players recorded a par on the 18th to halve the match.

Gemma Dryburgh versus Cheyenne Knight (Knight, 2-and-1)

Dryburgh won the 4th hole to go 1-up, but didn’t win another hole the rest of the match. Knight won three holes and took the match 2-and-1.

Gaby Lopez versus Chella Choi (Lopez, 6-and-5)

Lopez dominated, winning seven of the 13 holes and never trailed in the match. She posted a score of eight-under par, including three eagles.

A Lim Kim versus Stephanie Meadow (Tied)

Meadow won four of the first six holes and was 2-up through 11. Kim won holes 14, 15, and 17 to go 1-up before Meadow tied the match when Kim bogeyed the 18th.

Megan Khang versus Andrea Lee (Tied)

Khang won four holes on the front nine to build a 2-up lead. Each player took one hole of the next four before Lee won the 14th and 15th to even the match. Three consecutive pars heading in ended the match all-square.

Minjee Lee versus Youngin Chun (Lee, 6-and-5)

Tied through two, Lee went on to win seven of the next nine holes. Chun won the 12th hole with a birdie, but Lee secured the win when both players recorded a par on the 13th.

Caroline Masson versus Brittany Altomare (Masson, 2-and-1)

Masson blistered the front nine with a score of four-under par, putting her 2-up in the match. The lead was extended to 3-up through 14. Altomare won the 15th with a birdie, but got no closer.

Madelene Sagstrom versus Albane Valenzuela (Sagstrom, 1-up)

Sagstrom built a 2-up lead through the 7th. Valenzuela bounced back to even the match after an eagle on the 9th and birdie on the 11th. After both players won a hole over the next six, Sagstrom won the match with a birdie on 18.

Ryann O’Toole versus Wei-Ling Hsu (O’Toole, 1-up)

Hsu took the first lead in the match after a birdie on the 4th, but O’Toole gained the lead after winning the next two holes. Hsu got the match even through 16, but a bogey on the 17th put O’Toole up by one, winning 1-up.

Jennifer Kupcho versus Emily Talley (Talley, 2-and-1)

Talley went six-under on the front nine, building a 4-up lead. Kupcho won the next two to get 2-down, but never got closer. The match ended when both players recorded par on the 17th.

Stacy Lewis versus Lauren Stephenson (Stephenson, 1-up)

The lead changed six times during this match in which neither player led by more than 1-up. Lewis won six holes, and Stephenson won one better, good enough for a 1-up victory.

Lizette Salas versus Aditi Ashok (Ashok, 3-and-1)

Bogeys by Salas on the 2nd and 3rd helped Ashok to a 2-up lead. Ashok increased the lead to 3-up through 8 and 10, which she held unti Salas won the 15th with a par. Ashok closed the match with a par on the 17th.

Hye-Jin Choi versus Su Oh (Choi, 5-and-4)

Choi built a 2-up lead through five before Oh battled back to 1-down at the turn. Choi took command by winning four of the next five holes to end the match.

Danielle Kang versus Kelly Tan (Tan, 7-and-6)

Kang played uncharacteristically poor, failing to win a whole and shooting five-over par over 12 holes. Tan shot two-under par and won seven holes, including six straight to win in a blowout.

PajareeAnannarukarn versus Eun-Hee Ji (Jin, 4-and-2)

Ji shot five-under par through the 16 holes played in the match, winning seven holes. Anannarukarn shot one-over par and won three holes in the loss.

Ayaka Furue versus Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (Tied)

Bouchard built a 3-up lead through 8 and 11, but failed to win another hole. Furue tied the match with a birdie to Bouchard’s bogey on the 18th.

Carlota Ciganda versus Angel Yin (Ciganda, 2-and-1)

Ciganda played a stellar round of golf, winning six holes and shooting five-under par. Yin was relatively solid, shooting 1-under and won four holes through 17, but it wasn’t enough.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen versus Paula Reto (Reto, 2-and-1)

Reto won the first hole with a birdie, but Madsen regained the lead through six. Reto got the match tied through eight and built it to 2-up through 15. Reto closed out the match by tying holes 16 and 17.

Yealimi Noh versus Elizabeth Szokol (Szokol, 2-and-1)

Szokol won the first hole, but Noh won the next two holes and held a 1-up lead through 10. Szokol won four of the next seven holes including a hole-in-one on the par 4 15th.

Ally Ewing versus Jodi Ewart Shadoff (Shadoff, 6-and-5)

Ewing won the first hole, but got dominated the rest of the way. The defending champion didn’t win another hole, while Shadoff shot seven-under par over the next 12, putting away the match.

So Yeon Ryu versus Jasmine Suwannapura (Suwannapura, 5-and-3)

Ryu never led in the match and won only two of the 15 holes played. Suwannapura shot three-under par and won seven holes, ending the match with a par on the 15th.

AtthayaThitikul versus Tiffany Chan (Chan, 3-and-2)

Thitikul was just one-over par through nine, but was 5-down after Chan shot five-under. Chan improved to 6-up after 11 before Thitikul won the next four holes. Chan closed out the match on the 16th with a par to Thitkul’s bogey.

Alison Lee versus Amy Olson (Tied)

Lee was four-over through four and was 3-down. She turned things around and clawed back to all-square through 15. Olson won the 17th with a birdie to go 1-up, but Lee’s birdie on the 18th tied the match.

Georgia Hall versus Annie Park (Park, 2-and-1)

Although Park didn’t dominate the match, she never trailed, taking her first lead after a birdie on the 4th. Hall won two holes and shot 1-under compared to 2-under for Park, who closed the match with a par on the 17th.

Mina Harigae versus Perrine Delacour (Delacour, 4-and-3)

Harigae was 1-up through six before Delacour won the next five holes to go 4-up. Harigae won the 13th but Delacour won the 14th with a birdie and closed the match on the 15th.

Hannah Green versus Haeji Kang (Green, 2-and-1)

Kang won four holes but never led in the match. Green won four holes on the front and entered the back nine, 1-up. She increased the lead to 2-up on the 16th and won the match on the next hole.

Sophia Popov versus Jenny Shin (Shin, 2-and-1)

Shin birdied the first to go 1-up. Popov won the 4th and 5th to take her only lead in the match. Shin won four of the next five holes and controlled the match the rest of the way.

Charley Hull versus Lilia Vu (Vu, 5-and-3)

Hull struggled to four-over par over the 15 holes played and never led in the match. Vu shot even and won the last five holes to cruise to the win.

Ariya Jutanugarn versus Esther Henseleit (Jutanugarn, 2-and-1)

Jutanugarn won five of the first nine holes and was 4-up at the turn. Henseleit never led, but showed some fight, winning three holes on the back to get to 2-down. Jutanugarn won with a par on the 17th.

Hyo Joo Kim versus Allisen Corpuz (Corpuz, 3-and-2)

Kim was 1-up after two, but Corpuz took command after winning five of the next nine holes. Kim won two holes on the back to get to 2-down, but Corpuz won the match when Kim bogeyed the 16th.

Matilda Castren versus Sarah Schmelzel (Tied)

Both players won three holes and both players shot three under par. Castren’s biggest lead was 2-up, but Schmelzel won two of the last three holes to tie.
