Ladies of the Links: May 17 - Symetra Classic

The Symetra Tour teed it up at the River Run Country Club in Davidson, North Carolina for the Symetra Classic. This 54-hole event played at a par 72 layout of 6229 yards. Peiyun Chien entered as the defending champion after posting a score of 14-under par defeating rookie Lucy Li by one shot.
First Round
Frida Kinhult took the early lead after a round of 68 that included seven birdies and three bogeys. She was a shot ahead of a group of five, including Vicky Hurst, Allison Emrey and Isi Gabsa. Ten players were bunched at two-under par, including Fatima Fernandez Cano, Sophie Hausmann, Haylee Harford (all in the top ten on the money list), and Gabriela Ruffels. All told, 42 players were under par on a day when scoring conditions were ideal. Notables included Chien at one-under, Riuxin Liu, Bailey Tardy, and Beth Wu at one-over, and Sophie Schubert (8th on the money list) at four-over.
Second Round
Scoring conditions were dramatically worse, as only 13 players finished under par for the day and after 36 holes. Allison Emrey took the lead after four birdies on the back nine and a round of 67. She held a one-shot lead over Fatima Fernandez Cano, who also posted a 67. Five shots off the pace were Casey Danielson, who shot a round of 69, Vicky Hurst, and first round leader Frida Kinhult. Still within striking distance were Sophie Hausmann and Gabriela Ruffels at two-under par. Lilia Vu, ranked second on the money list, was at even after a round of 74. Cheyenne Woods rebounded from a 74 and was at plus-one, along with Haylee Harford and seven others. Among those missing the cut were Dewi Weber at five-over, and Riuxin Liu and Bailey Tardy at six-over.
Final Round
The majority of the top finishers shot under par during this round, with the exception of Allison Emrey and Fatima Fernandez Cano. Emrey stumbled to a 75 with no birdies and finished third at five-under. Cano had four bogeys and three birdies and was at six-under. Casey Danielson birdied three of the final five holes, including the 18th to enter a playoff with Cano. After both players recorded a par on the first playoff hole, Danielson won on the next with a birdie to Cano’s par. Tied for 4th was Sophi Hausmann and Isi Gabsa. A group of seven at three-under was led by Weiwei Zhang, who recorded seven birdies and a round of 67. Defending champion Peiyun Chien finished in sole possession of 14th at two-under par.
Coming Up
The Symetra Tour heads to Alaqua Country Club in Longwood Florida May 21-23 for the IOA Golf Classic Presented by RP Funding. This is the ninth year of this 54-hole event at the par 71 layout of 6117 yards. Laura Wearn enters as the defending champion.
